We are seeking a skilled and experienced Vehicle Mechanic / Fitter to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and servicing of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), our fleet of vans and associated equipment, ensuring they remain safe, reliable and compliant with all relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections on HGVs, trailers and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Carry out repairs and replacements of faulty components, including engines, transmissions, brakes and suspension systems.
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and ensure they meet DVSA standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records and complete job cards.
  • Respond to breakdowns and carry out roadside repairs when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the workshop.
  • Liaise with drivers and operations staff to report vehicle issues and coordinate maintenance schedules.

  • Basic working hours are five 10-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 5:00pm.
  • Weekday and weekend overtime may be required to cover call-outs.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or an equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience working with HGVs in a workshop or fleet environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid UK driving licence (HGV Class 1 or Class 2 preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety procedures.
  • IRTEC accreditation (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Experience working with hydraulic systems and tail lifts is desirable.
